The South Somerset town of Yeovil, which lies on the River Yeo, was founded in the eighth century by the Saxons and is mentioned in the Domesday Book by the name of Givele. Yeovil became the centre of the glove making industry, which reached its peak in the 1830s when it is estimated that as many as three million pairs of gloves were made each year in the town.
Today, Yeovil is a thriving market town and is well known for its connections with the aviation industry, and in particular, the manufacture of helicopters.
Yeovil has a wide range of shops, including the Quedam Shopping Centre, two theatres and good recreational facilities.
The town is well-connected by both road and rail. Yeovil lies on both the A30 and the A37 and boasts two railway stations, one on the Bristol to Weymouth line and the other on the Exeter to London Waterloo line.
Wessex Surveyors cover Yeovil and all the surrounding villages including Sherborne, Milborne Port, Bradford Abbas, Yetminster, Yeovilton, Marston Magna, Ilchester, Houndstone, Odcombe, East Coker, West Coker, Crewkerne, Merriot, Cricket St Thomas, South Petherton, Martock, Halstock and Halstock Leigh.
