Sherborne, sitting on the River Yeo in North Dorset, is considered one of England’s most attractive market towns. It boasts many historic buildings including the famous Sherborne School, founded by Royal Charter in 1550, and Sherborne Abbey, built by St Aldhelm in the 8th century, with its intricately fan-vaulted roof. The Abbey and other buildings in the old town are built from honey-gold coloured Hamstone, a Jurassic limestone quarried in Ham Hill in Somerset, which develops a furrowed appearance when weathered.

Sherborne is well connected to the region by road and rail. It lies on the A30, six miles east of Yeovil and is just an hour from Poole to the south east and also from Taunton and the M5 to the west. It enjoys a convenient position on the Exeter to Waterloo railway line.
