Blandford Forum is a traditional market town standing on the River Stour in Dorset. It is the administrative headquarters of the North Dorset District Council.Blandford is famous for its well-preserved Georgian architecture.
The town centre was rebuilt after a devastating fire in 1731 which destroyed many buildings. The result is a predominantly Georgian façade, with many three-storey houses with classical porticos and stone colonnades.Blandford hosts a Georgian Fayre every May Day and the Great Dorset Steam Fair every September.
The town has a good choice of independent retailers, including a well-established nursery and an excellent new and second-hand bookshop.
The nearest train stations are about half an hour’s drive away, at Holton Heath, or Poole, on the Weymouth to Waterloo line, and Gillingham or Tisbury, on the Exeter to Waterloo line. Blandford has excellent road connections. It is situated on the A354 Salisbury to Dorchester Road and also on the A350, which links the town to the M4 to the north and Poole to the south, an easily commutable 30 minutes away.
